The 22nd Annual Nevada Law Enforcement Officers Memorial ceremony was held Thursday, May 2 at the Capitol Mall in Carson City.
The service began with a presentation of colors by the combined Nevada Law Enforcement Honor Guard, and National Anthem delivered by the Carson High School Chamber Choir followed by an invocation and the delivery of a runner’s memorial baton.
The baton was relayed by Nevada peace officers from Las Vegas to Carson City. The Annual Law Enforcement Memorial Run began Wednesday, April 24, 2019. One leg of the run was completed in the memory of each officer, now 134, listed on the memorial. This year marks the 20th anniversary of this run.
Keynote speaker was Nevada Gov. Steve Sisolak.
The ceremony payed tribute to Nevada Officer Kyle Lawrence Eng of the Las Vegas Department of Public Safety, Division of Corrections, who suffered a fatal heart attack on July 19, 2018 shortly after struggling with an inmate in the Las Vegas Detention Center. Also, memorialized was National Park Service Ranger James P. Fleetwood, who died on July 5, 1977 when his vehicle was struck head-on by a drunk driver while en route to a parade detail in Searchlight, Nev.
